In the Bible we are told to observe the Sabbath. A day that is devoted to God and God only. So if services were held all day, then that would be very pleasing to God. Also many churches have too many people to fit into just one service.

The Bible really doesn't give direction to which day of the week the church is to meet or how many times per day. One really good example of the early church is found in Acts 2 and it states in verse 42-47 where the church met daily; 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles; teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (NIV) Given this example, the church can and should meet often. On the issue of multiple services, that's usually a common answer to the good problem of growth. In order to accommodate everyone that may want to attend a corporate worship service and Bible study, many churches have gone to multiple services. Studies have shown when a facility reaches approximately 80% capacity, growth will slow or stop due to a majority of people not being comfortable with a crowded sanctuary. (Everyone wants his or her elbowroom.) So, the multiple services in effect doubles or triples the seating capacity of the building without the major expense of building a larger facility.

There isn't a biblical command that I've seen about which day to have church on. As said above, the apostles met every day, and so did the early converts. New testament churches recognize Sunday, the first day of the week as the Lord's day. The Jews and old testament rulekeepers consider Saturday as sabbath. (The Lord rested the seventh day) Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. We think Jesus was resurrected some time between Saturday night and Sunday Morning. The empty tomb was discovered very early Sunday morning. Jesus made a habit of preaching on the sabbath, but says to bring the tithe to the storehouse on the first day,so we do. We believe that the day Jesus rose again should be the sabbath, so on the first day, Sunday, New Testament churches go to worship. In my church we have 2 services on Sunday, not because we are too full. We go twice because we love to be with our brothers and sisters in the Lord as often as we can. We also go Wed. night, because we love to be together and learn about the Lord. Also we have a great, firey Pastor who teaches with a passion that's contagious. We don't like to miss.

There is no Biblical teaching on multiple services... Churches who have such services have many members & need to have several services to accomidate the many church members...

What on earth do you mean by multiple services? Do you mean that they have more than one service or do you mean that they welcome people who share their beliefs, but with a slight doctrinal difference? If the former, I think they all do, if the latter there is no Biblical basis because when the Bible was written Christianity was in its infancy and hadn't been riven into opposing factions and so the question is irrelevant.

Our church used to have multiple services on Sunday and a gathering on Wednesday to have a lesson type of service. Then we changed to one Service on Sunday and cell or share groups on Sunday night. Now we only have a Sunday service on Sunday morning and a service on Wednesday. There are also classes for new believers and a set of classes for the spiritual growth of members held periodically as needed. The reason for more than one service is to preach as well as teach and to fellowship with one another. There is also a youth service on Thursday's. While multiple services isn't in the Bible as such we are told to gather together for the purpose of building each other up.
