If he txts/calls a girl for 1+ mth and doesn't fess up until he gets caught, but swears that it was completely platonic, would you consider that cheating or just bad judgement?

Depends on whether when he was "caught" if he answered strait, or tried to hide it. Just because he was not fully open does not mean that he was cheating. But if you asked him and he denied it, then he is giving you a reason to doubt him, even if he never cheated. Remember to give him his Sign.

I don't consider it cheating because there's not enough evidence to support the claim that it is (if that claim exists).

Ok if he had a previous fling with her before, then this is definitely not a good situation. He should've told you from the beginning that he's been talking to this person for a while because of "this and that" It's just very upsetting that he would keep that from you knowing that he hurt you with that same exact person. Talk to him and tell him it's making you uncomfortable. If he really cares for you and doesn't care for her in "that way", then he would consider your feelings and stop with that Beware, this is probably escalating to another fling.

Maybe he feels he can't come clean with you. He might not be cheating, but he may not trust you not to go psycho-hose-beast on him. Always remember that his hiding it from you might mean it's his fault, or it might be yours.

if it was 'platonic' then why not tell you? Call me cynical, but my ex was up to this and gave me the same story. I found out it wasn't true and a lot more to boot. It took me three years to find out what he was up to and it wasn't innocent. Signs to look out for are: leaving his phone on silent, keeping his phone with him at all times, turning it off at night, passwords on computers etc. If he is doing any of these then you should be suspicious.
