It will probably mean an influx of new users, which could be both good and bad...especially from what I've heard about Yahoo! Answers.

Perhaps you could provide a link? Many times these 'announcements' are hoaxes circulated through certain e mails.

I've never used yahoo answers because when I've looked at it, I didn't like the format. I've noticed that they've been closing down stuff for some time. Yahoo photos is gone, so it yahoo auctions. I think it's just a matter of time before they're gone completely!

Whoa! I was just on YA this morning, and the thing that shocked me most was that I was seeing certain 'banned' words spelled out in their entirety, like f*** and a**hole...so maybe they just stopped caring about what people are saying. Which is really too bad. I was suspended from YA last week, I was at Level 4 with 4,472 points. I log on every day and it still gives me a point for logging on(!)but I can't respond with any answers. I usually just give trolls the thumbs down, or my old buddies a thumb's up. I love being on AB, I can only think of one person who has been bitchy to me(a straight guy lol!), and trolls are unable to be as manipulative here as they are on YA. It is my belief that the right-wing religious fundamentalists are shutting down YA, singlehandedly. I was warned by a member that they plot the demise of left-leaning and queer-positive members by constantly reporting and giving thumbs down. Since everything is automated and there are no live human beings to talk to about the "trolling", people get dropped without a fair hearing(me!) I've had half a dozen people(at least!) write to YA abuse board on my behalf, I still get e-mails from people who thank me for help that I gave to them...it's very sad, really. These trolls don't care ANYTHING about helping people, they're just on to squash dissent and promote their own agenda. That's enough out of me *steps down off of soap box*

I don't think so. I'm also from Yahoo Answers like you. But the culture here is very different. On Answerbag, people are not impressed with "yes" or "no" answers. On Yahoo Answers, it seems to be the name of the game, especially in the Polls and Surveys category. You also can't give answers such as "2 points" here. I think many of the users there would have a hard time adjusting here. But I do hope that Yahoo Answers would not shut down. I still have an account there, but no longer the high-level one that I used to have. I still post questions there because some of my serious questions aren't answered here. Yahoo Answers is great, actually, it's some of the users that make it suck.

It may not be a rumor, they just announced yesterday, that they were laying people off. If they do, I say come on over, the more the merrier. :)

doubt if that one is true but anything is possible-as for effects-get ready for a lot of downraters-some are very hostile there to someone who doesnt agree with them-here though we can always support each other but it would be a shame if the politeness and friendship that is available became in much shorter supply-they have shut dont the forum they had for appealing violations and 360 is scheduled to be replaced also---wish i had more info to give-cool question---smile and enjoy the day

Oh gods I hope they do not close Yahoo Answers! I pray to the Yahoo Gods (who must be assholes) to keep that website up and their TROLLS at home.

When we all left Yahoo Answers in August it was Tegarst who predicted that YA would implode on itself within a year. It is a site of trolls and twelve year olds (his words). However, AB has a much better method of handling trolls..they have live moderators...and a lot of good members on here.

I think you will find that this rumour has got plenty of meat to it .... so I urge ALL ABers to keep am eye out for Yahoo trolls , now some of my fellow ABers are ex yahooers and we all seem to have come over to AB about the same time BUT for all the same reasons TROLLS so its up to us to weed these scum out just like we have been doing in the past and more recently in the last few weeks ...maybe an advanced guard of trolls ...and I am NOT kidding ... to beware!!!

If it happens, I won't be surprised. I used to be on Y/A all of the time. But there are no live moderators, and the racist/homophobic trolls run rampant there. I had to turn off my email link and set everthing to private because of all the harassing emails I used to get. Sure, a lot of the trolls have slithered over here, but AB moderators usually make quick work of them. Plus, I like the AB format here much better. I like being able to comment on people's Q&A, uploading videos and images, using all my old avatars, etc. Plus, there seems to be a lot nicer folks over here as well. I still use Yahoo for mail and news, etc. as it's my default browser. But Y/A has been going down the tubes for a long time...I'm hardly ever there anymore.

It might not be that bad. We both will have to see.
