  • Because HPV will give women cervical cancer. For men you would just get warts on your penis which is easily treatable.
  • Yeah i got it.. And it helps prevent women getting cervical cancer.. But I dont really know what it would do to men..
  • Good question. Since HPV is contagious, women get it from their partners, which we assume are mostly men. If men were also vaccinated then the chances of HPV spreading would be dramatically lowered. I hope that you get a reasonable answer to this. I would like to know!
  • there is a vaccine called Gardasil for women. Women age 26 and under can take it and it provides protection from 70% of High risk HPV (cancer causing) and 90% of low risk (wart causing). There is a vaccine in the making for men also but it is not released yet. Recent research has shown that men are also in danger from HPV, not just because of warts. Some high risk strands of HPV are known to cause throat cancer in men
  • There are many types of HPV, but the vaccine you are referring to is called Gardasil. It was created to specifically target the virus types that cause cervical cancer. It is not an overall HPV vaccine. Since men cannot get cervical cancer, it is not recommended for men at this time. However, I believe it may be in testing for other age groups, virus types, and possibly for men as well... but until those clinical trials are completed and the FDA and CDC approve the vaccine for those purposes then it will continue to be recommended for women, ages 9 to 26.
