Cats make beautiful pets -- they're sweet, warm, compassionate, cuddly, loving and self-cleaning! If you pick up a stray off the street, yes, you would have the possibility of it having a disease. But, why not ask her if you can adopt one from the local veterinarian -- or from a shelter and have it checked by the vet before you bring it home. Unless your brother is allergic to cats, he won't develop asthma by having a cat in the house. In fact, having household pets helps build immunity in young children/babies and keeps them from getting sick as much. Just in case, though, have a back-up plan with a friend or family member who will take the kitten and give it a good home, in the event that it doesn't work out at your house. But, let me tell you, if you get the right cat, you'll have a good friend for years. I got my Killer when he was four weeks old. I had to have him put to sleep this year -- when he was 17. He was an awesome cat!
