Cigarettes: if a cigarette is advertised as light or ultra light, how does this happen, if the cigarette has no vent holes to allow more air, instead of smoke? and, how are light and ultra light cigarettes different and made, compared to regulars?

Lights and ultra lights do have vent holes my friend. Look in the filter they are laser drilled (for lack of better word) holes circling the filter. Ultra lights filters have two of these hole rings. The difference between regulars and lights/ultra lights are the laser holes and the filter is made of more dense fibers to let less smoke through and catch more unwanted components of smoke. Ultra lights are denser than lights consequently. The problem with the light ultra light labeling is many smokers inadvertently (sometimes purposely to get more nicotine) block the holes with their fingers when they are taking a hit of the cigarette. It is very easy to do as the holes are very small. The only thing that helps is the fibers density. Hope that explains it. Stay smokin =)

Light and Ultra light cigarettes have lass tar and nicotine and are mostly used by those who wants to eventually quit smoking. I smoked lights for a year. Now I am back to full flavors because I favor the higher nicotine to help reduse stress. The only cigarettes that have holes are mistakes that somehow made into the pack. Ultra lights mighe have charcole filters. after you smoke one rip the butt apart it will show you. It looks like fine granules of gun powder. silvery in color when used and coal black when un-used.

I also suspect a bit of advertising hype, such as happens when advertising "lite" and "light" foods.

There would have to be some sort of vent unless they simply just made it so there where less additives.
