I take a Zantac once in a while myself, Kitt. Actually, the generic works fine for me. If you have a constant heartburn problem, it could be your diet. But it could also be hyper-acidity. It might be a good idea to check with your doc. But, there have been no problems or side-affects from Rintidine, the active ingredient, that I know of.

My doctor prescribed zantac 300, one tablet every morning, for my ulcer. I have been taking it for five years. Are you sure that you do not have an ulcer? Maybe you should go back to your doctor, and make sure. I haven't had any side effects from taking it. Good Luck..

Since I was diagnosed with Reflux since 1993, I have been on prescription Zantac/Ranitidine. Originally it was 150mg 2*/day, but with an insurance I got, they recommended 300mg Ranitidine to save money. After that first bout, I'm scared sh-tless of going without it (acid in throat causing constriction of muscles, coughing and NOT being able to get very much breath for a length of time - enough to run to the hospital). I HAVE had a doctor ask why I'm not taking "real" medicine, and haven't asked him about that, yet. But, as I said, I've been taking it since 1993 with no bad effects that I know of.

I'd say it's time to get checked out. Sometimes, if you have moderate to severe damage, you need more than one kind of medication. And, if you let it go too long, you may even possibly need surgery. It's better to bite the bullet and go find out what the status is. Just my opinion, and advice.
