  • Well, you raise a good point about consistency. Note that this phrase was only added to our coinage in the 20th century. I am reminded of the printing error on a series of coins that came out with "In Gold We Trust." :o) No one group should be allowed to foist their religious beliefs on others, in a country that values the separation of church and state as a founding principle.
  • i say leave it as is. I personally choose to believe in god but i'm not 100%. So...just leave it the way it is...it's tradition, God Save the Queen! lol
  • Do we believe we are the only nation under GOD? I do agree that church and state should be seperate but that is not going to happen until we see the government completely turn its back on religion.
  • I think the point of "in God we trust" is that it is a famous saying. In the UK some coins have "Standing on the shoulder of giants" on the side, I dont think there is any real meaning to the words.
  • It really means, "In God we trust...All others pay cash"....
  • I agree. Remove it from the money and the pledge. Why should there be mention of god on the currency and in the pledge of a country which boasts of freedom of religion?
  • It's tradition though, I guess.
  • I'm an atheist, but I seriously couldn't care less that these phrases are there. It's just part of our western cultural past and identity.
  • Why not. The only reason we have them now is because scaredy cat politicians of the mid 20th century legislated the phrases into law to prove they weren't communists.
  • Sure, let's just remove the thought of God from everything and also ignore what would ever happen if God took His thought away from us for a nanosecond.
  • i think people are being ridiculous. most people probably didn't even know that was on money and unless you look at it everyday (which you don't), yo have no reason to be offended.
  • Sollution to both issues: Get rid of BOTH the Federal Reserve Currency, AND the Pledge of allegiance. Return to a debt-free Gold standard the way things were prior to 1913. AND Let Patriotism be the individual's responsibility and NOT a brainwashing propaganda tool. Let God sort out the rest...
  • I don't see why it is a big deal. If you don't beleive in god it is just a bunch of non-sense, anyway. As long as a god dollar is worth the same as not...who cares.
  • I think to remove it and make new money is only going to cost more money down the road, and then there will be the people who will hoard the old money to sell it later to collectors which for every dollar we don't send back than they can't make more. That is why it is illegal to deface money because they have to send it back to replace it and that cost money. I already get taxed enough, so for all of those who really care what it says on the dollar bill, than please pay the extra tax money for the new plates, the making of the bills and the cost of transportation. We just had the bills revamped and had to pay through the nose. To me green is green. The only thing I care about my bills is the large numbers on the corners.
  • Just out of curiosity, how many religious folks would get their knickers into a twist if money sported some atheistic phrases? The notion I've got with the whole "GAWD" thing, is that it doesn't address WHICH god. For all we know the god in question could the chinese god Zhou Wang. http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/chinese-mythology.php?deity=ZHOU-WANG
