Let me explain this . I want to rent a room in Oakland CA. and I was told the landlord checks for a 700 credit score. But I have no credit history. They said someone else can sign the with a 700 credit score but they have to live in Cali. is this true?

It would actually make sense, althought 700 seems rather steep, but I don't see why the landlord cannot ask for this. The only workaround I can think of is if you agree to perhaps give more than the security deposit and first month upfront. -
