When you have an itchy throat, it stops when you cough or clear your throat. Why does the itch then come right back when you swallow?

It could be due to an inflammation of the tissue around your throat and due to its aggravated state, it persists until it finally goes away. You could have a cold or something too.

At the tail end of a cold I get the same thing. Just the normal cycle of having a cold for me. This can happen for a week or two. Taking Buckley's cough surup helps for a little while, but I haven't found anything to 'cure' it. Tea with honey sooths it for a little while. Cough drops (Halls) work until the cough drop disappears. I hear taking a tablespoon of Worchestershire sauce will also help.
