You will do a much better job by lowering your shirt and then buttoning the pants around it. In this way you don't introduce unsightly creases when you have to bunch up the shirt and tuck it into the already buttoned pants.

I usually lower my pants below the shirt and then raise them around it carefully and then zip/button. Usually, I adjust after I zip but before I button. I am very funny about my shirt being tucked in evenly.

If I have to then I button around it and then pull it out gently to required style however I prefer to have my shirt outside as long as it's not too long.

Pull my pants up around my shirt. But it's funny that in the movies they always zip and button their pant then tuck. Ever wonder why? Does it look more 'macho'?
