That adage works all the time. I know I'm guilty of taking on an argument many times, but I also know deep inside my heart that arguing is an exercise in futility.

Arguments may win the situations, but looses the relations. For me, situations are not important than relations. An icy brain, sweet toungue and lovely heart may win in many situations. Hardest moment is not that when we loose something and tears come out of our eyes, but it's the one when we loose something but manage to smile.

...except in a court of law. A jury or judge decides who won by awarding a result/outcome of deliberation..one side wins, the other side loses.

Mr Carnegie favored discussion to argument, so his technique will work fine in these competitive days. I (redneck as I am) am a Dale Carnegie graduate. Mr Carnegie had some strong tactics on influencing people. Nary an argument will be had that could not have been avoided by properly persuading your point when you introduce it.
