Get a volt meter, there is a negative and positive post on it and then there is the starter relay wire. Put the negative lead of the tester on the ground on the relay and then put the + (positive) lead on the open field wire. When you attempt to engage the starter the open lead should show a 12V reading. It should engage the solenoid by clicking.
