Probably not. Rule of thumb is one week coming in, one week receptive, one week going out. But this is not hard and fast. It can be anywhere from three to twenty some days, depending on the breed. The true test is to have your vet do a hormone level test to see where she is in the ovulation cycle. Her behavior can be a key also. If she is laying her tail over and posturing for mounting, generally they are ready and willing. If she is snarly and acts like a bitch to the male, she isn't going to do anything.

It's possible. The eggs once they are released will wait to be inseminated for a few days. I'd go ahead and try the breeding if the bitch allows. If she strongly protests, you'll probably have to wait for the next heat. Good luck!

Hi When your female starts her season it is best to check bloods from day 5 and then every other day until the prostegene surge then count 48 hours and then mate. It takes about 48 hours for the eggs to develop so day 16 I would still try as she could of ovulated on day 14. If she is still standing for the male and has a straw coloured discharge not heavy as before then there is still a chance. Good Luck

Take her for a swab test, and/or see if she'll stand for the stud. But generally I find days 12 and 14 to be best for my own breed. But like humans, it really does depend on the particular bitch. But my immediate reaction would be you might have left it too late.

I'm having some breeding issues as well and looking for all the advice I can get. My female lab in just over 2 12 years and is heat now and we're trying to breed her but not having much luck. She "will not" stand for the male, she tucks her butt, spins, runs and plays,,,,she just wants to play with him. I'm really not sure where she is in her cycle, but she started bleeding one week ago today, some days it's heavier than others. I've been told by various Vet's and breeders, very different pieces of advice. Some saying if she's bleeding, it's too late,,,,other's saying it means she not quite ready,,,, that would be my take base on the overall span of the heat cycle and the fact that she is not standing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input and feedback. As for the question, yea, I realized what I had done after it was too late. At this point about all I can do is keep trying or get the swab test done. My issues there is in my location the only Vet that I have found to do it quite a ways away and said then want to charge and arma and a leg and then stated it well take a few days to get the results back. ??? Thanks for everyone's help.
