  • I forget. I know it takes a specific type of screwdriver. The way I learned how to do it was by googling certain words like: Open, Xbox, troubleshooting. That's how I found a page that told me what I needed and how to do it. I remember that it's pretty simple.
  • Easy. Tools required to open and to remove optical and hard drives: Torx T20 and Torx T-10. Torx are the star-like screws. Use the T-20 Torx screwdriver to open the six Torx screws. The screws are located as follows: One each under the four runner feet: carefully peel back each rubber foot from the edge closest to the centre of the machine. You only need to peel it back 1/3 of the way. Don't peel the whole rubber foot off because it wont stay on the machine after that. The other two are located under the two stickers. Feel the stickers for the screw hole. The bar code sticker can be peeled back a little. The other sticker you will probably have to pierce. Once all 6 screws are out, gently prise the top of the case away from the base. It is lightly clipped on. The easiest way is to prise from the left and right sides where the ribbed side meets the base. Once the lid is off, there is a silver T-10 screw in the centre of the middle bridge (between the two drives that needs to come out as well as two gold coloured ones. These are located on the centre bridge set down a bit and the other set down a bit at the front left corner. Use a torch. After this, the drives will lift out. Unplug them. and do the CD first followed but the HD. Un thread the power (red/yellow/black cables and then lift the HD out too. From here you have access to the inners of the machine. From here also, unplug the power because the power components are located under where the HD came out and they are rather dangerous. Enjoy.
