  • A Marine is enlisted in the Marine Corps, a soldier is enlisted in the Army.
  • A soldier is in the Army. A marine is in the Marine Corps, which is a part of the Navy.( the marines may not like it, but that is the way it is!)
  • Actually a soldier is a term for all military branches, Marine like to be called a Marine because. we are different. Remember these terms: A..Aren't R...Ready for M...Marines Y...Yet N...Never A...Again V...Volunteer Y...Yourself
  • The marine likes to kick ass and take names, the other doesn't remember it got it's ass kicked. semper fi.
  • The Marine thinks that he and his compatriots are the best soldiers in the world and that soldiers are the result of unwed parents. The Soldier believes exactly the opposite....:-D..
  • the amount of active brain cells OOOOOOOOOOOOOORAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  • A marine needs a DOC to take of him, a soldier will let anybody do it!!!!!!!!
  • oy vay, dats like askin the difference in suthern comfort and makers mark!!!
  • Water, or the lack of it.
  • The tag on his shirt. Any good soldier and any good Marine will give his life to save the other and the feelings are mutual. We may wear different uniforms but we all bleed red. Infantry, Ascend to Victory!
  • Hahahahwell in Britain, Royal Marines are trained to a higher standard, for longer, and pushed harder, than any other infantry training. Marines know they are damn close to top in the world, Army know they're not, and dream of being able to become a marine. Royal, bottoms up! 'Per Mare, Per Terrame' Royal Marine Commandos Motto: By Sea By Land. They also do by air, but not so often. Generally Helo assaults.
  • In the UK, the Marines are the Navy's specialised private army. They are trained particularly for assaults from ships. This means that, in general, they do not have heavy equipment (because it cannot be landed from the ships), and do not have the "long tail" of logistic support that the Army has (because they are supported by the Navy). Because of this, they have a higher proportion of front-line assault troops than the Army, and they tend to be trained in commando techniques and so on. They tend therefore to consider that they are tougher than the Army. Which, on average, they are, because they do not have the support services that the Army has. But they are not necessarily tougher than the toughest bits of the Army.
  • They both put on a tough man " My dad can beat up your dad" front, while at the same time wishing they were in the Air Force!
  • Marines are seaborne land soldiers. "Marines (from the English adjective "marine", meaning "of the sea ", from Latin language mare, meaning sea, via French adjective marin(e), "of the sea") are, in principle, seaborne land soldiers that are part of a navy. However in some countries Marines are no longer part of the navy (notably the United States Marine Corps which has become an independent armed force falling only administratively under the navy)." • Ok, lets get the obvious out of the way. Yes, the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy, the Mens department... And yes, that joke is way older than I am. Back in 1834 when the USMC fell under the Navy, I would venture a guess that the then Commandant of the Marine Corps realized he had a national fleet at his disposal, as long as he let the Navy feel as if we were property of theirs... I will also caveat this right now by saying I'm still active duty Marine Corps and this may or may not slightly skew my perceptions. On an individual basis, the average soldier is amiable and easy to get along with. He/she is also competant and knows their job well. This goes the same for any Marine. I find the differences really come into play when you start getting a group of either together, then you start to see the service mentality of each come out and this is where you will readily spot the differnces. I think the Army likes to act like an Army and won't commit to anything until it can throw a Division at the problem. If you give the same dilemma to a Marine, you will find a motivated Lance Corporal leading a fire team of PFC's blazing ahead and getting further guidance once they reach their initial objective. See, we've learned long ago that there is opportunity in chaos and it's better to seek forgiveness than beg permission.
  • A soldier is a service member of the Army...A Marine (which is capitalized because it is a proper noun) is a member of the United States Marine Corps. It is considered rude to address a Marine as a soldier because you have to earn the title "Marine".
  • Marines kick @$$ take names win battles and do the impossible. While soldiers do some kick @$$ stuff win some and lose some and occasionaly do the impossible.
  • Marine is a lifestyle, soldier is an occupation.
  • The difference between a Marine and a solider is there is few Marines and they are proud of what they do even though they get treated like crap and don't get paid much. A solider doesn't get treated as badly and sometimes get are better paid. Marines are also tough as hell and they don't take crap from anyone besides their CO. Talk to a Marine and ask them the difference. Its also considered rude to call a Marine a solider.
  • The Marines go in, fuck everything up and take care of the problem and the army comes in and does the whole shaking hands and kissing babies
  • A soldier is in the Army. I AM a Marine.
  • marines smell funny
  • Soldiers train the Marines. Marines are a big obsolete commercial. In fact, if a Marine wants to go Special Forces, they must go through the Army's Ranger school and Airborne school. The truth is, anything the Marines go into, the Army has to bail them out. Look at Afghanistan in the last 6 months. Another difference is the Army does 12-15 month deployments. Marines...6 months. They cannot hang. Finally, Marines are brainwashed. How else can you get them to do what the Army does for way slower promotions? Less promotions means less pay. The government has thought repeatably of ending the Marines and morphing them into the Army. Their mission is no longer needed.
  • Marines are underpaid Soldiers who in reality get most of their training from the Army anyways. Soldiers are higher paid Marines. Marines are Soldiers that could not pass the ASVAB and were denied the chance to serve in the Army. Marines are to the Army what security guards are to real cops. Marines are a big commercial when in all actuality, they are nothing more than the Naval infantry. The Army is a mix of technical Soldiers and combat arms Soldiers because we are in one service. Just like the Army has an Infantry corps, the Navy has a Marine Corps. The difference is that the Army owns the Special Operations Command, Delta Force, Alpha team-Special Forces, Rangers, Airborne Divisions, Air Assault divisions, and the list goes on. The Marines who train for their "Recon" which is nothing more than our regular Calvary Scouts, have to go through Army Airborne school and receive fighting/ survival training from the Army Ranger school. Marines are nothing more than kids that got shoved into lockers in high school trying to get a name for themselves. Soldiers know they are the best and don't have to make a commercial of a young man fighting a rock monster to prove it. www.GoArmy.com
  • Soldiers eventually mature.
  • Here's a reason...
  • a brutal training regime. I went in the corps 42yrs ago and boot camp was different,"let no man's ghost ever say, if my training here had only done it's job" was our DI's warning. We humped to the rifle range from MCRD, we got kicked punched and slapped silly. it was so intense that 2 recruits had another tell the DI that he saw them kissing hoping to get kicked out. But Gunny Francis knew all the tricks "shit birds" used so that night after the smoking lamp was lit and before we hit the ranks, he told the 2 that since that liked each other so much they could sleep together in that little bunk and when he checked both had better be in that bunk. After 3 nights he asked him were they still in love with each other, no answer is needed. What army basic was like compare to marine boot camp is like night and day, from the time we hit those yellow foot prints to after we graduated we had to go through hell to request to use the head, the first and last word out your mouth had better be sir, if you were not marching, route stepping or running you'd better be at attention. in the army after 2 weeks they could go to the canteen and have a beer and pokie bait. When we got to Nam we ran into paratroopers for the first time. They thought they were some bad shit. All marines had to go up towards the DMZ where the NVA were and these boys were tough, the army paratroopers took over where we were and the Vietnamese peasants told the difference between us, "when army come booku VC come booku VC!! marine come no VC, Vc de de mou!! They leave. All I can say about our younger jarheads today is that with this new style in boot camp we old timers call you pokie bait marines but we proud of you cause you have proven that you can hold your own. The u.s. army looks a lot better than it did in Vietnam, I'm proud of you guys too but remember all you army paratroopers what ARMY stands for AIN'T REAL MARINES YET! SEMPER FI!!!
