I was working on them right up till Christmas eve.
  • Each year I make my two best friends gifts. This past year I made them hand made "note cards and matchng envelopes". I love to make things like that. One year I made them calander books and I took it to an Office Max and had them spyral bound. And I even made them scrapbooks with photos from our childhood...the problem with that one was I wanted it spyral bound and I made the mistake of taking it to Kinkos! I gave them specific instructions on how I wanted it bound...I even left spaces at the end of each page for the spyral binding to be put...the idiot in the shop bound it on the other side of the book and she put the binding through all of my photos and it also looked like a backwards book...it couldn't be open the way I had made it to be...I had to do two scrapbooks all over!! They "were" going to charge me for this mess! But they didn't!! I didn't even get an apology from the stupid person who did it!! I wont go back to Kinko's ever again! But that has not stopped me from making hand made gifts. I do it every year. I make knitted scarves and hats. I make embroidered hand towels and I am right now making placemats and matching napkins for my 96 year old friend!! I think a hand made gift means a lot more, don't get me wrong...a nice store bought gift is great too!

I painted it festively and took it home and presented it to him proudly. He loved it..he used it. • I give hand made gifts frequently. Personally, I think someone who takes the time to make a gift for someone instead of just purchasing something is really thinking of that person. I have made many things, such as crochet afghans, quilts, novelty pillowcases, food baskets and others. I enjoy getting something homemade too, so maybe that is why I like giving them. Have done crochet - blankets, baby clothes. Received some also. My nephew carves in ostrich and emu eggs, bone, wood. Makes beautiful night lights, jewelry, statues, even made me a cane. A homemade gift generally comes from the heart. It's more expensive because it was more than handing over money for something. It takes the persons time, imagination, and love to create.

  • Lotsa times! My favourite, and the most time consuming, was a miniature of Legolas from the Lord of the Rings movies. I was planning on making an entire chess set from white and red clay, but the school year moved faster than my hands. I got Legolas, Aragorn, and Gandalf done and painted. When I graduated, I gave Legolas to my friend who was then obsessed with the pretty elf-boy. My dickhead parents broke the other two, saying they were my "false idols". *eyeroll*...fundies.
