Why aren't people more careful when choosing categories for their questions?

I think many of the miscategorized questions are posted by users who aren't regulars like the two of us. They really don't care about the categories, all they want are answers to their questions.

I generally type the subject of my question into the category search box and pick what it gives me. Sometimes I keep it more in a general category because when I go farther into it, nothing really fits or it could be more than one sub-category. Occasionally, for some reason, I'll type the subject in the category search box and everything goes haywire and my question gets posted to whatever category the computer picks! I do usually give it a good try, though.

WEll judge to plead my case I try my best but sometimes I get confused and I just plop the question in the best spot available!!!! :)

It is sometimes hard because the question can fit into more than one category. Not only that but each one leads to anothter and if we are new, we get trapped.
