It depends on the genre of music. Pop music, top 40 and rap or hip-hop may have some sterotypes, but not all music does. Look at folk and jazz singers....they come in all shapes and sizes.

A performer must be looked at, and the most successful ones are the ones people like to look at as well as listen to.

Because it makes them more enjoyable to look at while they are performing. They are Displaying themselves to the public and we expect our vocalists, especially the female ones to look presentable in order for us all to appreciate their musical talent as much as possible.

It depends on the genre of music. Pop/rap usually wear reavealing clothing, or some glitzy glam get-up. Not sure what country wears... And front women in rock vary. Some dress 80s, goth, dresses, or something you would normally go out in everyday.

Because God forbid we see the peson for who they are inside we may not spend our hard earned money on their music. It's about selling a dream it's all a fascade the ones who really have something to offer don't have to hide behind piled on make-up etc,
