You already have a lot of good input but, Messiah is Hebrew and Christ is Greek and they both mean "Anointed One". I have always used the William Tyndale Bible (died a martyr for GOD),The Living Bible. Anyway, I think the most important verse is when Peter confessed (Matt.16:16)that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Peter's confession was the rock(foundation) that Christ would build HIS CHURCH ON.HE gave Peter the KEY there to start the church and Peter started it on the Day of Pentecost..

Jesus I believe means saviour. Christ means the pomised one. He was called Jesus when he was born, He is called Christ when in, the spiritual sense, we say that he is the one that was promised.
