  • Try your best to get it out. Massage it out or reach in. I know it sounds bad but. If you can you should. That puppy will die in there and then the bitch will need surgery.
  • Thank you so much. I took your advice and started first with the massage followed by the reaching in and have since helped deliver two more little girl's. I am currently giving her a little bit of rest before checking for more.
  • YOUR VET DIDN'T TELL YOU TO COME IN???? what the hell? I would say take her in..but you may want to call a different VET! In most cases I've seen either the bitch is too exhausted to finish whelping OR this is a very large pup. I can't imagine a Vet NOT requesting that you come on in for this! I'm truly shocked...an hour at the least is about how long I'd wait to see if she finishes up on her own.
  • I'm glad this turned out.... but for those reading this and thinking about applying it to their own problems... in simple terms: it doesn't always work. It sounds like this bitch was on her way to uterine inertia. Probably a shot of oxytocin IM would have helped with the contractions. However, uterine inertia should be taken very seriously. It is almost always a cause for emergency vet care. With you reaching inside your girl, that probably stimulated contractions. For the future, if your bitch stops labor compeletly (and not just resting), this is an emergency. Remember is it NORMAL to go 2 hours between puppies for some bitches. It doesn't mean her labor has stopped. Going over two hours would worry me, and I would be on the phone with the vet. On average puppies come every 1/2 hour or so. I've had them come 12 minutes apart and 1 hour and 35 minutes apart. Between puppies, I keep an eye on mom for stress, check her gum color, and listen for heart beats on puppies to come (that way you can know if you're going to be dealing with a stressed puppy, or maybe if the heart rate is too low, to seek help.) Good luck with your new babies!! Give them lots of kisses. :) (What was the total count? How many boys and girls?)
