It is probably a bit of both...and not knowing their actual wants and needs. Good question by the way.

I believe you hit the nail on the head. Most men will never have the opportunity to cheat. But of the ones who do, I think over half do it because they never dreamed, in a million years, that someone else WANTED them. And, when presented with the opportunity, if they are not grounded in a strong, loving relationship, they jump at that opportunity to feel that "rush" again, (the one you get when that 1st beautiful girl/guy says "I Love You"). It's not usually until they are in it, that they realize the cost and pain caused by the "slip-up", so to speak.
