Help answer this question below.

1980 corvette..good alternator, good battery..once jumped off, the the needle gradually shows discharge till buried on the left side. two questions. where exactly is the voltage regulator, should there be any other wires going directly to the battery?

    check all your ground wires if not it also check your hot wires junction block by the battery. hope it's one of 2.

    Here is a charging systems diagram for a 1983 Vette. (I think they are the same) I believe the regulator is internal to the alternator. There are several fusable links that may be blown, They are special wires that act like fuses and I would check all the connecions for corrosion. There is a test hole on the back of the alternator. It is D shaped. If you put a small screwdriver in the hole and short the contact in the center to the case, it will turn the alternator on full.
