  • i bought a toshiba and it came with vista built in and i have to say, vista is terrible. I ended up returning it because i didn't want to spend the money for XP. I think you can still buy the XP OS but it might be a little expensive
  • - Yes, it's free (the Vista license allows you to install XP instead, but doesn't provide the physical media) - Make sure his specific model will run XP. This isn't always the case, newer hardware may lack drivers for XP. I have just such a laptop -- it cannot be rolled back to XP. - Google your PC's model number with "Windows XP" at the same time, and see how others are doing with the task of installing it. - There's one very safe way to experiment: buy a separate hard drive, remove the drive in your laptop, and then install XP on the new drive. If the installation fails, you have a nice new external drive, and you can put the Vista drive back into the machine.
