  • The only one that I can think of offhand is the The Apocalypse of Peter. But there are others. This was actually a fairly common view among many of the Gnostics. While some believed that it wasn't actually Jesus on the cross, others believed that he withdrew into a spiritual body or was somehow taken away by God during the crucifixion.
  • Although not according to common understanding a “gnostic gospel” if we take the two words to mean 'salvation through knowledge' and 'good news' repectively, then we can see that the HQ gives good news of salvation through knowledge of Allah and his commands and acting on them. The HQ says that it is the final revelation. Many refer to it as the Last Testament, LT, following on from the OT and the NT. The HQ tells the story of Jesus in essence and sets the record straight. It also speaks about the story of the crucifixion of Jesus. In HQ 4:157 we are told that “THEY SAID (in boast), ‘WE KILLED THE CHRIST, JESUS, SON OF MARY, THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH’” The Jews thought if they could kill Jesus they would not only get rid of his annoying challenges of their understanding of the scriptures but it would prove to all that he was not a genuine prophet because Deuteronomy 18:20 says “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.” However, the HQ asserts “BUT THEY KILLED HIM NOT,” that Jesus did not die at their hands “NOR CRUCIFIED HIM,” that they did not kill Jesus on the cross either “BUT SO IT WAS MADE TO APPEAR TO THEM,” this means that although they were convinced they had killed him, in reality they hadn’t “AND THOSE WHO DIFFER ABOUT HIM/IT ARE FULL OF DOUBTS, WITH NO (certain) KNOWLEDGE, BUT ONLY CONJECTURE TO FOLLOW” the opinions about him cover a very wide spectrum, from those who regard him an illegitimate child and an impostor to those that raise him to a level above which there is no level by regarding him to be God. Whatever their theories about him, concludes HQ 4:157, “OF A SURETY THEY KILLED HIM NOT”
