Big fan of the show House MD. I just don't understand why they take a month off during their season? Apparently they do this every year---which I didnt know because I just started watching recently. Why do shows do this?

Fox does this with most of their shows, although right now I think it's largely due to the writer's strike.

They do the same thing with Nip/Tuck which I'm addicted to, I hate it!!!!!!

Well, apparently nobody wants to work through Christmas. Hugh works 16 hours a day at most. So, I think it's a break for the crew and actors. At the time of your question, the WGA was going on.

The shows take a month off because November sweeps ends. The next sweeps begin in mid-January, so that is why new shows will start and shows that are already on, start new episodes.
