I play by instinct and by ear so I can't really say this the way a teacher would but, the dominant note is your key. Where does a measure begin, and where does it resolve? There is your key. Soloing is something you will be able to naturally do after you can keep good rhythm. The scale is going to be up to you, as the explanation thereof is impossible here. That's what a solo is, it's your interpretation of what the music is doing. The scale you end up with is the right one. Generally start your run when the singing stops, begin on the correct note for that part of the song and just walk it up the frets in time to the drummer and on key with the bass player, making sure every time the chord changes you are playing the same note or one that will work with it. Walk it back down to the resolve, play the key chord and start singing again. Trust your instinct and remember if it's not fun to play, it's not fun to listen to.
