  • I joined at age 17, I have never been carded since.
  • yes why not if they are old enough to die for their country they should be old enough to get rat faced once in a while...as long as they dont drink on duty!!!! ;D
  • 18 is the legal drinking age here.
  • I dont think so...but I dont think they should be able to die for our country at 18 either :-(
  • They can drink on a military base. That question has been around since the starting of wars and the laws that governed age limits.
  • No. They're two different things: the government needs its mercenary and it's perfectly acceptable if they get killed while fighting for oil but drinking...oh, the scritches from those withches at MADD would be heard in the moon...no way! This is kinda the same thing as the anti-abortion but pro-war thing
  • If they are abroad, then that drinking limit is law and normally is younger. If you are asking why they can't drink in the US at 18 but go to war then that is a different question. Does an armed forces base do a better job of monitoring people. Is there a higher level of responsibility there? Does an 18 year old show respect there better for fear of consequences or would an 18 year old be just as respectful while drunk in any bar in the local area? You can get someone pregnant at 13 or 14 and become a father. Does that mean you deserve other privileges also?
  • I've been asking that question for years. I was married when I was 18, a couple weeks before being sent to Vietnam. I had a beer (in my hand) at the reception and my dad took it away. I told him; "I just got married and am going to screw my brains out tonight, I can sign a legal contract, I'm going to Vietnam in a couple weeks, and you say I can't have a beer?!" He said "yes" and drank my beer, what could I do, he's my dad. I did all the rest of those things though. In my opinion kids should be allowed to drink and smoke a little dope at 18, they shouldn't be allowed to join the military and vote until their 21 and better able to make mature decisions. They're also less likely to be brain-washed.
