They don't need tangible proof to show the existence of something that they do not believe in. For an athiest, no prove will be sufficient.
-
Do folks who beieve in God need proof she exists., No proof is necessary. Blind faith is all thats needed. Dogma is a wonderful tool. Tangible proof you say That would be a rather nice twist. Is there not a song about fairy tails will come true..............? let me put it anothe way ,if you will. When we are alone and we close our eyes and we pray that the powers that be protect our loved ones and we have food and water to sustain us. It is our private moments and that happens between our ears. Its a private matter and needs no proof. We open our evey and go about our daily lives we eat we drink we cross the street. What we feel that happen between our ears is seperate from our daily lives and never the twain shall meet. The problem is mixing the two when in fact they are different and seperate.
-
yes, definite proof
-
If someone could give me tangible proof of a God then sure I'd start believing in him/her. But as an atheist I don't believe that tangible proof is possible. That's kind of the point.
-
Well, most Religions are "Faith Based" rather than "Fact Based", I'm a Satanist, so I believe something entirely different... but still: The meaning of the word Faith which is most applicable, is "Belief which is not based off proof" - there is nothing wrong with this unless you view everything in life scientifically... Faith is usually based off personal experience, not 'tangible proof', faith always has been, and always will be, a personal journey to come to what you believe to be true, unless you can physically record your memories and experiences onto something physical, it's unlikely there will ever be 'tangible proof'... So generally speaking, an athiest is someone who through their own journey in life, has come to believe that there is no God, athiesm is not the absence of religious belief, but rather the belief that 'there is no God', there is just as much 'tangible proof' that there 'is' a God, as there is that there 'isnt' a God...

For me, the evidence for God comes from two different sources. First of all, I just cannot accept that all that we see, all that is, came about without the aid of some intelligent designer. Therefore, I see tangible proof of God's existence in the order in the universe. Second, I have asked Him if He is there and have felt the confirmation of His existence through the power of the Holy Ghost. I know that most atheist will not find this convincing. It is possible to come up with other explanations for all of these. They are however sufficient to convince me that God is there and that He is concerned for me as He is for every one. ******************* Either the question has been edited since I answered it or I read it wrong. I remember as asking if THEISTS need tangible proof that there is a God. Oh well, I still stand by my answer though it may not precisely answer the question as it now stands.

I look around and everything I see is very tangible and proof of what I consider "God."

Why wouldn't we? This is our eternal souls at stake, why should we just dive right in and choose what to believe on a whim? Sufficient to say, a lot of people will go to hell if the Christians are right. And just imagine if the Mormons were right, I know at least one thousand people, in person, who will be joining me there. The real question here is why don't believers need proof. Now that's a question. That's acctually my question to you. Imagine if you're wrong, and the muslims were right (or if you are a muslim, imagine if the Jews were right, cause the Christians obviously isn't). That last line was just added to piss the most people of, because I figure most of us here are Christians.
-
a better question is: can they prove there isn't a god?
-
Well, it might help.
-
Yes. Show me the god.
-
In order to believe in him yes i do need a proof.
-
Yes, please.

That's more or less how things work on this planet if it matters to you that you're right or that you atleast picked the most logical choice. If you're on an airplane and someone jumps up and tells you there's a bomb, hands you a parachute and says jump are you going to jump right away based only on what someone said or are you going to try and verify that claim first? If someone calls you on the phone and says you won a new car in a drawing that your friend entered you in and all you have to do is give them your social security number and credit card information to verify your information are you going to give it to them right away or try to verify that it's legitimate before you hand your identity to scam artist? In the world we live in everything requires proof and the more tangible the better. It's ironic to me that the most important aspect of your existence, more important than your life, is the one and only thing you will accept as truth without proof and wear it as a badge of honor.
-
I need beyond reasonable doubt
-
There is tons of proof that no god worth worshiping can possibly exist!
-
No. If there were some proof that there is a God, fine. Honest mistake on my part. But I don't NEED to believe in God, so I don't need proof.
-
What we need is evidence.
-
I don't need proof. But I'm always open to any you can provide.. I watched my Mother die of cancer and suffer tremendously. I guess God must have been out to lunch or had a divine crazy plan for my mother from all her suffering.
-
yes i dont beleive anything that cant be proved
-
just not believing in God doesn't necessarily make someone an atheist because alot do tend to believe in spirituality or something greater than themselves which can be interpreted as similar to God. yes, proof of some kind is ususlly needed, which i have received myself in the form of para-normal activity which proves to me there is definitely something else existing.
-
That's okay, I'm good.
-
One single shred of objective evidence would ne a nice start.
-
Thing is, that would make god natural. That's not much of a god, is it?
-
Obviously not; that would shatter their entire belief system.
-
Umm... yeah. That's kind of the point.
-
Atheists do not, since they have faith that there is no God. Agnostics (like myself) do, because they believe in the *possibility* of God, but need empirical evidence one way or the other to actually believe or not.
-
There is tangible proof, but atheist deny it. Most atheist don't WANT proof but simply wish to follow their desires. Even Anthony Flew, an famous atheist no longer can deny the proof of GOD existence.
-
Hmm.. yes. I'm a scientific atheist annnd well.. I've got enough proofs in psychology to suggest to me that there isn't and no proofs anywhere to suggest to me that there is.

In response to denidowi: denidowi, first of all I would like to state I did not fully read your answers, merely skimmed them reading a couple of paragraphs to get the idea.Based on reading this I have come to a conclusion your are either illinformed about evolution or are being willfully being ignorant.Seeing as you seem to be moderately intelligent, I would say it is probably the first one.Your paragraphs showing difference in animals and saying they haven't changed(this is what i gathered from it personally), is proof of the falsehood of evolution are faulty. It most certainly does not in any way hinder evolution or prove the existence of a God.I had no sort of "revalation" from this and will continue to stand by my logic as a atheist. Also, since I surmised from your answers that you are illinformed about evolution, I don't think it would be best to try and have a debate about it if both parties aren't well informed. Regards,

Some would say yes, although some would settle for a wealth of supporting evidence. I certainly don’t expect to be handed proof one way or the other, but it would be nice. As things stand we have a mountain of evidence that there is no god, and very very little to support one. I’ll side with the evidence for now.
-
I don't need proof, I simply reject the idea that there must be a God, and even if there is one, that this God gives a damn about what I do every day of my life. Honestly, if there was a God, I doubt he'd still be hanging around this backwater planet when there are whole galaxies out there. I think to presume otherwise is incredible arrogance, we're not that important in the big picture...
-
No we don't and there is no tangible proof.
-
they shouldn't care, unless there is a tiny voice chewing at their soul, slowly making an empty space
-
If i told you I was giving you one million dollars would you run to the bank and demand to withdraw a million dollars before I proved i was giving it to you or would you just take it on faith? I'm giving you a million dollars as soon as god gives it to me.
-
In order to accept that god's existence? Yes. Some kind of measurable, tangible, objective, repeatable and universally accepted evidence, yes.
-
That would make me a believer. Before we go the route of "god exists outside of space and time" lets consider that he supposedly interacts with our world. Those interactions would be tangible and, hypothetically, measurable proof of the existence of a god.
-
The irony is that they don't seek evidence to support their own theory, yet seemingly believe with all their heart. Those I've spoken to ignore the evidence that there is an intelligent creator and don't care whether their theory has evidence or not. They believe it regardless. They do what they accuse theist of doing, believing without evidence or even curiosity as to whether there is any evidence.
-
No, I'm sure if there was just some evidence it'd persuade some.
-
Empirical proof, or personal experience. Either would work for me. However if this God turned out to be as Christians describe, I don't think I want anything to do with him. Either he's not capable of ending suffering in the world (in which case he's not up to the job) or else he's deliberately allowing it (in which case he's malevolent). If god existed, and was competent, and benevolent, no devout Christian would ever get cancer.
-
Yes we do.. Got any?
-
Not really, nor do we need any tangible proof there is no god because as with any debate the burdon of proof lies with those who want to prove there IS a god, not those who claim there is not. In other words, without substantial proof there is or is not a god, then atheists need need nothing, because atheists aren't the ones trying to prove anything exists, whereas the religious claim many things but have no proof. For example if a scientists wanted to prove the lochness monster was real, he would have to prove it was real..there would be no one trying to prove something wasn't real in order to validate it. Atheists need no proof of a god to not believe in gods, but if the religious want everyone else to hop on the same train, well yeah some verifiable proof might help.
