Most people are jerks.
-
I disagree. Most people seem to like to talk about themselves without any effort to justify their position.
-
I have to disagree here, G for the simple reason that I dont think some of my conversations could be classed as being conversations, let alone be categorized into those 2 groups!
-
Well that certainly can't be true. I can tell you how to make a pie. And that's not my position or opinion, that's just a truth that I'm sharing. And it's not talking about another person, it's just stating a fact: this is a way you can make pie.
-
I'm definitely right, when I say those people are full of sh*t. Do you like that? I just did both right there.
-
I disagree with both. Most daily conversations with people are meaningless. Hello, how are you, I am fine and you? Do you know how many times I have this same pointless conversation in one day. I am baffled why people even go through this charade, because who really cares if your you are annoyed today because you forgot your sunglasses in your sister's friend's car. No, let me stop being ugly, it may really lift someone's spirit that your cared enough to ask how they were and to listen to them boo who over their glasses.
-
I disagree. I dislike discussing people, it seems a waste of time. Many of my conversations can be about simple things or in depth discussions and in neither case does it involve justifying a position.
-
Well certainly there is lots of conversation which falls into these categories, but not ALL. I would say most of the really interesting conversations do NOT fall into these categories -- people sharing about their lives, exploring possibilities, trying to connect with others, expressing empathy, sharing insights, confessing to misdeeds, asking forgiveness, expressing love. I think you really have to twist the theory hard to make it account for all of these conversations.
-
I disagree. While many conversations do fall in to those categories, not all of them do.
-
That's why i try not to talk to much. It's better to be quiet and be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.
-
How about the whole area of conversation dealing with curiosity about things...or concepts, or values...questions about them, not pronouncements or rigid answers but questions? Those are my favorite..justifying one's position can get tedious; stating it and then moving on is what I try to do. Talking about other people..well, sometimes that is a wonderful thing to do when the discussion is in laudatory terms. So, as with everything in life, there is the plus side and the unplus side! :)
-
Teachers don't. (Well, not while they're teaching, anyway!)
-
Nah you have to add verbal vomit. That's a special category.
-
Sometimes I talk about food, does that disprove the theory?
-
that seems way to simplistic.
