I know I'm gonna get a lot of shit for this question, but I'm entitled to my own opinion just like the next guy!
-
It would make more sense, another person will be taking over another persons decicions. Right or wrong. Although if we waited for all situations to change George Wasington would be in the white house!
-
It's been done many times before and we somehow managed to survive. We had Truman in the last days of WWII Eisenhower took office While Korea was still going on. Nixon came in in the midst of Vietnam. I think we will somehow manage to survive with a new president whoever he or she is next year. Though I wouldn't mind if the constitution was ammended so Bush could run again. He would definitely have my vote.
-
Why would we ever want another term with a coked out monkey?
-
I'm giving you points for even having the courage to ask this. Somewhere out there a die-hard Bush hater is having a stroke even as we speak. Unfortunately, I have to say that I don't think it would be a good idea to keep Bush in office. And I'm saying this as a Republican. We need a change of leadership to help straighten out the clusterf**k that is the Iraq war.

I don't really wish we could change the constitution to allow more presidential terms, I wish we could ammend the constitution to add term limits to congressmen and senators as well. We have only had presidential term limits since 1951. I don't know how they slid that one in without including the congress and senate as well but it should be changed to include them. I don't see a problem changing presidents during wartime either. We got Saddam, We got his henchmen, Mission accomplished remember? I'm getting a little confused as to why we are still there. Maybe another president could steer us in a more posotive direction. I understand Afghanistan but I'm getting a little confused over Iraq. Lets give them 90 days to get their military and government in order and pull out. Isn't that what each new administration gets in this country? 90 days? Elected November, Sworn in in January. I don't see why iraq should be any different.
-
i don't see the danger in this i'm sure whoever gets elected is up to date on current events and knows almost every thing if not entirely what's going on.
-
Hells no! If a president could gain extra terms just because there was a war going on, that would give them an even larger incentive to start and perpetuate wars. Politicians already use fear tactics to get elected, what you're proposing would only allow them to continue that sort of manipulation indefinitely. Also, even if a president isn't corrupt enough to perpetuate a war to keep themselves in power, most politicians are very concerned with public image. Some of them (The current president included) to the extent that if they found themselves in the position of trying to resolve a war, they would refuse to admit or correct any past mistakes by making any change to their tactics. So basically, changing the constitution to allow extra terms for war-time presidents would greatly help anyone who wanted to establish a facist police-state driven by perpetual war and fear. And at the very least, it would result in the same people banging their heads against the same problems for decades at a time, with many innocent people dying in the meantime.

In a time of war it is the most excellent time to elect a new president and hopefully a new party. Another term with GWB could have disastrous effects. world war IV for instance.
-
Of all presidents you want Bush to get an extra term? Can he keep going until the "War on Terror" has been won? And is everyone in the world incompetent compared to the almighty King George? Yes, we need to keep Dubya in power for as long as terrorism exists in the hearts of men. Anyone who answers otherwise is a terrorist. We'll hunt you down based on your IP address and stop your terrorist thoughts in their tracks. Damn emboldeners... Also, I'm sure if we gave Georgy leeway to stay in power until the war's over, he would in no way try to lengthen this war just to continue to hold office. ~Your logic is flawed, and therefore I agree with you.
-
No. I do not think that we should allow a person to remain in office past their two terms for any reason. If a person was power hungry and so-inclined they would use whatever reason available to remain in office. Think about it: We are in a "War on Terror." There will ALWAYS be terrorism in the world. If we allowed the president to remain in office he could stay there for the rest of his life.

Whether Americans are willing to pay the price remains to be seen. When they find out what the price is – perhaps as high as a few more terrorist incidents, on a scale equal to the WTC attack. The American public must be willing to turn the US, as well as the mountains of Afghanistan, into a battlefield in the pursuit of victory: this is what the elites are counting on to prosecute their war. Furthermore, this is the real meaning, albeit only implied, of the World War II analogy. Unlike all of the other wars we have fought in the post-cold war era, this is one that will take on truly global dimensions. And, unlike even World War II, where the territory of the continental US was never for a single moment in danger of attack, the first battle of World War III was fought on American shores.

Heck no, then we might end up in the same boat as Venezuela right now. Definitely don't want Bush changing the Constitution for his benefit & only his benefit.
-
All it would take is a man who is willing to wage war the rest of his life to achieve total despotism. A bad idea!
-
i would like to give democracy a general overhaul, since it seems to be dissipating. to answer your question: HELL NO. thats exactly what we shouldn't do, ever heard of 1984???
-
I don't see a problem and I think it should stay just the way it is.
-
When in doubt, stand by our constitution it was written for this purpose and has stood the test of time and countless campaigns and wars. No change is necessary at this time.
-
Its a shame that the presidency was not changed BEFORE we all got into a war, too late now.
-
No. It is time we lived what the constitution says.
-
This is a great example of why term limits exist - we have a mentally challenged "president" who is guided by a morally challenged "vice president". Our nation and the world will be suffering the consequences of their supremely poor decisions for decades. This is likely the only way we can begin to build a road to recovery.
-
The only time this ever happened was with FDR and WWII. Congress and the American people saw fit to amend the Constitution after that. Very wise in my book.
-
If this is your idea of a joke, it really isn't funny at all. If you are dead serious..well, you couldn't possibly be serious...are you serious? :(
-
We need to change presidency quick, fast and in a hurry!
-
I don't think it matters if you change Presidents in a time of war. We would have been much better off electing John Kerry in 2004, which I think actually happened, but the Bushies rigged the vote well enough to cover the fact that their candidate lost (again). We are not in a time of war, our country is OCCUPYING Iraq. Big difference. Bush declared that major combat had ended in 2003...effectively ending the war.No, I think two terms is plenty for the President, but we are long overdue for constitutional convention in this country, it is archaic and not keeping apace with modern technology. If you are asking do I wish Bush could have a third term, my answer is that I WOULD RATHER BLOW MY F***ING BRAINS OUT THAN DEAL WITH 4 MORE YEARS OF THAT MORON.
-
I personally don't think the US should change the constitution to allow another term. Then again, I don't live in America . . .
-
1. yes 2. NO
-
Well, if McCain wins, you will get a third term of "the decider", so you'll get your wish without screwing up the Constitution any more than "they" have already tried to do. So hang on..vote for McCain..and you'll have a third term of the guy who is there now! Wow..won't that be peachy keen?

Do you want Bush as president for life?
