  • Probably not a great coincidence, but certainly a coincidence; it is a situation that will only last 100 million years or so. There arte reasons to believe that a large moon, and a large tidal effect, are advantageous for the creation of life. And the sun, and the Earth's distance from it are also very positive to the creation of life. So it is probably not an astounding coincidence - but it is quite a coincidence (until we find out otherwise)
  • Its not exactly a perfect fit. I think the moon actually appears to be bigger than the sun....
  • You're right, I think the Moon and the Sun are in cahoots against the Earth; lol, what do you mean "coincidence".
  • according to the book "What if the Moon didn't exist?" by Nell comins, the moon spun out into an orbit that was perfect to keep the rotation and earth's orbit around the sun in check. Things happen for a reason.
  • Yes, that is considered just a coincidence. In the future the moon will be more distant, making solar eclipses annular & thus less spectacular.
