  • Because we have not domesticated foxes as we have dogs. It takes a very long time to domesticate animals so that they are fit to live with humans. However, some people have taken on the challenge of owning a fox, but you have to remember that you will be attempting to train a wild animal to live within your rules. This is obviously not a walk in the park.
  • Maybe because I live in such a remote rural area I have known two people who had or have pet foxes. They are actually kind of timid little animals and seem more cat like than dog like personality wise. I know one woman who has a pet arctic fox and it is just the sweetest little guy on the planet. He is very "clingy" and likes to be held a lot and ride on her shoulder. I think he is sligtly insecure or at least acts like it but he is really adorable and friendly in a timid nervous kind of way.
  • Dogs have been domesticated for a long time. Their affinity for human contact and affection is pretty inbred. Foxes are very much "wild fauna". You could never really have a "domestic" pet fox. That would take many generations, and you would end up with a creature that was not really a fox. Am I making sense?
