My 2000 Ford Explorer does not want to run or idle without keeping my foot on the gas pedal. Any ideas on what it could be or what I need to check for?

tim its your fuel line- you have to replace it. its not putting any power nor the gas to the fuel line. or it could be the fuel filter - not to much money to spend on repairing it

It's most likely the Idle Air Control valve needs cleaning. It is located just behind the throttle body and held on by 2 bolts. Get a new gasket and a can of spray caburater cleaner. Remove the I.A.C., clean it and reinstall with the new gasket.

This happened to mine!! It is either your fuel valve needs to be cleaned or...I forget the name of it and I'm really sorry...but the thing that keeps your engine running by itself is cracked and needs to be replaced. Only cost me about $100 with parts/labor.

if your car does not idle on its own with foot off the gas pedal check your egr valve that controls the idle when foot is released from pedal
