A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. It was a gut wrenching account of drug addict. I found it very depressing later when it was reported most of it wasn't true.

"Dominion" by Matthew Scully. It goes into detail about animal hunting abuse, from whales to our domestic pigs and cows. What makes it depressing is that not only is the subject matter saddening, but also Mr. Scully worked in the communications bullpen for President Bush and had Oval Office access...if he couldn't get anything done, how can the reader? You feel sad, mad, and helpless.
