Have you ever had that odd experience where you notice something in your house (in which you have resided in for many years) that you have never really acknowledged or noticed before (e.g., a certain part of the ceiling or a design on the wall or door)?

Yes, I noticed a feature of one of the wall just a few weeks ago; however, my wife is very observant and told me it had been that way for years.

Hmmm. when I was in high-school, I found that part of the decorative molding detached from our role-top desk to reveal a hidden compartment for documents/money/etc. It wasn't really part of the house, but my mom had it since before I was born, so I'd lived with it a long time before I found out. I was knocking on all our walls for about a week afterward :).
