Every pet should have the right to humane treatment and care, and no animals should be put in danger because of a human's actions (such as in shows, magic acts, etc).

Yes they should have rights but there is no reason they can't be of service and work in a reasonable fashion for mankind. Having rights doesn't mean total freedom to do whatever you wish.

Of course they should. They have as much right to this planet as we do. They should be able to live and roam this earth as they please with no infringement. Our dominance has not left any other species with much of a choice however...

Yes!!! And they should have stricter laws protecting their rights. They can't speak for themselves, it is up to us to speak for them. The way animals are being treated in this day and age is a form of slavery. There are so many problems existing in the world today this one ends up taking the back seat alot of times. Not saying I am religous but I can't imagine that God is too happy about any one of his creatures from mouse to man suffering at the hands of another even if it is 'for the greater good'. There just has to be a better way. Hopefully as awareness and compassion spread someday they will have their revolution.

I think that all animals have the right not to be abused in a wanton or deliberate fashion. That to inflict pain for the meer pleasure of watching a creature suffer is dead wrong.

    Of course.
Humans are animals too, you know.
It would be rather hypocritical to give one species of animal rights, and none of the others.

Obviously, there are some rights that just aren't applicable to animals; a cow shouldn't be allowed to bear arms, for example.
But there are certain rights that *Every* living thing should have, such as the right to adequate food and water, the right not to be subjected to torture or torturous conditions, the right not to be systematically held in captivity and slaughtered for generations, etc. etc.

It depends on what you mean by basic rights.
I relate to the way Native Americans honor Animals, giving thanks to the animal that may nourish their bodies, while affirming that their bodies will someday become food for other life.

No. But I do think that those who abuse them should lose theirs. Animals are not people. Trying to elevate them to the status of a person is not logical. Neither is causing their needless suffering or abuse.

Technically, rights and responsibilities go hand in paw. But all creatures do have certain inalienable rights, and among them are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness... well, really, the right not to be tortured or abused. They may be used as we see fit, considering that 1) most of the animals we use were created specifically for the purpose and would not exist without our intervention anyway, and 2) animals in the wild are subject to far worse than what we subject them to. How would you like to be eaten alive, or chased down and murdered with fangs applied to your neck?

No, not in the same sense that humans have "rights," but animals should always be treated with respect and compassion. Even the Bible says that, "a righteous man regardeth the life of his beast." : )

No. i do not think that animals should be treated cruely, or that Mike Vick got of to hard, or anything, i love animals, but I believe God put animals on the Earth for our needs. Our needs does not include fighting them or kicking the crap out of them when were mad, but im just saying i have no problum with zoos, and PETA is way, way overboard.

I think animals should be treated humanely.

Not to do so diminishes our humanity and makes it easier for us to justify inhumane treatment of our fellow humans.

Any creature that can feel pain should be treated in such a way as not to inflict unnecessary pain upon it.

All life ought to be respected as valuable and a part of the balance God has built into creation.

Is that the same as a "right?" I am not sure I would phrase it that way, but it has some of the same effect.

Thats a tough question. I'd have to say yes, but that would depend on the animal. A higher animal like a dog has more rights than a lower one like an insect.

They are entitled to basic animal rights! Which is to be eaten or to eat others! Man shall have dominion upon all the animals, because they are soul less creatures! With the exception of my cats!

If animal were actually given rights, what kind of rights would they be given?, If a dog bites and rips the face off a child for pulling on its tail, does it have the right to self defence? Come on, I think animals should be treated with care, but giving them right sounds alittle far fetched to me. Maybe we can creat an Animal Constitution or something.

I think so.... They are living creatures, they feel physically and emotionally, though some are domestic and some are savage...I do not say I "own" my pets because I feel privledged to have their love and devotion! I give them a home and offer my love in return. They are part of my family....+5
