  • you would definitely want to get a lift/deposit hair dye at the very least. what kind of red are you going for here? a friend of mine had jet black hair and wanted to dye it a more natural red. she used a lift/deposit and it ended up looking bright orange. we ended up putting a darker red on top of that and it looked good. so if you're willing to go for a dark, unnatural maroon type red, try something like loreal hi-color for dark hair only, get the color called "red-hot" it does a lift(bleach) but not a real strong bleach so you won't get the orangey affect...plus it fades real nice so you don't end up with a weird pink color. i use it on my hair also and i love the color. you can get that product at sally beauty but not at a grocery store. then just gradually go lighter if that's what you want.
  • if you bleach your hair first it WILL go bright orange, which is never a good look but if you put the red dye on straight after it will work! remember to condition your hair as bleach can dry it out but shouldnt have that bad effect on your hair at all, ive been dying my hair bright red for years and you should go for it!!
  • I tried that once, ended up with a mild purple tint that I had to point out for anyone to notice. Not really a horror story, but not what I was going for either.
  • First of all..any kind of hair chemicals and bleach is not good for the hair..As the years go by, your hair will get very dry and brittle and sometimes will fall off. (Due to the chemicals over the years) But if you still want to color your hair...Yes its best if a professional hairstylist that you feel comfortable with does your hair. Possibility you might have to get a double process..depending on elasticity, texture, and color of your hair. Good Luck :D P.S If this is your first time using blonder (bleach) you may want to do a patch test first..just to make sure you are not allergic to the blonder.
