What might fall into the gourmet soda category, unfortunately, is good old fashioned sodas that use what they used to use in sodas. It's too bad that using great ingredients like pure cane sugar is 'gourmet' now but it is. I love the taste of a great soda. Boylan's makes wonderful, worth drinking sodas with real sugar and real fruit juice and not much else. They have some with real vanilla and real sarsaparillas, no artificial flavorings.

1) I understand "gourmet soda" are soda for gourmets. Their main claim is to give the market of people drinking soda the experience of new taste directions different from the very few ones which have been selled for years by the main players on the soda markt. 2) For instance: "Gourmet Sodas As well as beer, Henry Weinhard's also has a gourmet soda distribution, based in Texas. Here is a listing of their sodas: Root Beer Vanilla Cream Orange Cream Black Cherry Cream" Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Weinhard%27s 3) PepsiCo acquired Izze Beverage Co to enter the gourmet soda markt: "Izze Beverage Company is the name of the company that produces and distributes the Izze line of fruit-derived carbonated soft drinks commonly sold at Starbucks and other coffee shops, health food stores, and grocery stores. The company was founded in Boulder, Colorado by Todd Woloson and Greg Stroh in 2002. Izze has founded the charity program Project Reach. This program helps give more educational opportunities to families of the farmers that sell their fruit to Izze. The company competes against others in the gourmet soda segment who, unlike Coca-Cola and Pepsi, use no high fructose corn syrup. Its primary competitors in this segment are Grown-up Soda (GuS) of New York, Fizzy Lizzy of New York, and Steaz of Newtown, Pennsylvania. On September 26, 2006, Izze Beverage Co was purchased by PepsiCo. PepsiCo has announced that it plans to leave Izze as is, only assisting with marketing efforts. The Izze Beverage Co introduced its second line of beverages, Izze-esque, on March 9, 2007. Izze-esque is reminiscent of the original Izze but contains crystalline fructose, a variant of high fructose corn syrup. The name Izze was chosen because the creator's daughter is named Isabel and "Izze" is her nickname."
