  • But it already has been, over and over again. I think we need to scrap it and ask for something he wrote himself.
  • I'm not trying to be a smart ass but if you believe what is in the Bible it says to not change anything, not even a period or accent mark. Also just a personal note from me to whomever cares. I don't really expect a non-religious person to know what I mean here in that I feel if you pray and combine the Bible together The Lord will help you understand what it is to mean to you. (The Lord customizes his word for each of his children) In other words it may not be intended for you to get the same meaning as I do. The Lord might speak to you and I differently. He may send you and I two totally diffent paths in lifes journey.
  • No.Actually, the bible was written by more than 40 authors(42, if I'm right) over a period of 3000 years and it still has continuity with each incident. So its never a coincidence but only the revelation of God.
  • Which version? there's like 100 different versions already. And how exactly do you want to re-write the word of God?
  • MY OPINION: Of course the Bible is generic. It was not meant to be taken as a "one stop shop" for all of life's answers. It's actually geniusly written considering that its content is meant for any one person who reads it to get some personal meaning or lessons out of it. It is nothing more than a collection of moral stories that's purpose was to teach people the differences between right and wrong while filling people with a fear of an all-powerful being called "God".
  • The Bible is alive, very powerful. Something is missing from your personal study, perhaps it is the group that you have been meeting with. Paul wrote the: “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) As Paul said “all Scripture,” he meant the whole Bible, not just the so-called New Testament. As it says in the closing words of Revelation, “And let no one add to or take away from the words of this prophecy, lest his portion be taken away “from the trees of life and out of the holy city.” Revelation 22:6, 10, 15-17, 19.
  • really I don't think that the Bible is generic at all. If you approach it with the idea that #1 its a cultural history, and #2. it is both literal and figurative in places. Revision will not help people who read the Bible with their own agenda misconstruing the contents to mean something that it never did.
  • The Bible's just fine as it is, just by itself. It's the people who read it and have emotional stock in it that need to be "revised." I'm talking about the people who take it literally as an instruction manual for life, of course.
  • Of course its generic. It wasn't written by God or Jesus or Muhammad, etc. It was made 200 years after Christ died, and its just a compilation of extravagant stories. Its just like an ancient form of the game telephone. These fairytale stories have been altered so much.
  • Thomas Jefferson would likely have agreed with you. He actually put together a version of the Bible that, in his view, did away with the superstition and corruption of the Bible, concentrating on the words of Jesus alone. In a letter to Charles Thompson he wrote, "I, too, have made a wee-little book from the same materials (The Gospels) which I call the Philosophy of Jesus. It is a paradigma of his doctrines, made by cutting the texts out of the book and arranging them on the pages of a blank book, in a certain order of time or subject. A more beautiful or precious morsel of ethics I have never seen. It is a document in proof that I am a REAL CHRISTIAN, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus, very different from the Platonists, who call ME infidel and THEMSELVES Christians and preachers of the Gospel, while they draw all their characteristic dogmas from what its author never said nor saw." GOOGLE search "Jefferson Bible" if you find the subject of interest.
