i have never tried this, but i have heard that if you add a potato it will soak up excess saltiness.

To take salt out of soup...peal and wash a potato...put in soup and let simmer a bit. The potato takes in the salt

This does work but works best with a washed and peeled potato. It acts as a sponge and will absorb much of the excess salt. However, take care not to leave it in your soup too long - as it softens it will begin to break down and re-introduce the salt.

I would first try things other than salt to add flavor to soup-herbs-onion-garlic. I try to use little or no salt in my soup with great success.

Use a peeled potato. That's the only way to remove salt. There is no opposite. And you might want to switch to kosher salt, especially Diamond brand Crystal Kosher salt. It's less salty and a much cleaner taste. Add it at the beginning of making soup and then it will have time to incorporate throughout the soup. You will not have to salt as much and risk it getting too salty.

Add some crackers(unsalted)
