With each ad in the business section costing hundreds of dollars each, and per page ads running close to a thousand dollars in major cities, the companies who pay for those advertisements want to give their customers the ability to let their fingers do the walking and are more than willing to pay towards their production.

Regarding residentual phone books, whether you choose to list or not to list your home number, a portion of your monthly payment goes towards the phone book production when you pay the phone bill!

Who pays for phone books to be produced? Look in the yellow pages. The various business that you see listed there are paying for that ad space. It is through the sale of that space that phone companies pay for the printing of the phone books.
