Some employers are at-will employment. They (and you) can terminate your employment AT-WILL for any reason at all. That's how it is in my state, and the surrounding ones as well. I've heard of people being fired for having a cell phone...not on, turned off, in their pocket.

Not necessarily. It would be no different from an employer firing you for stealing, but no cops are called becasue the employer has no evidence that you were the one stealing. If you think the employee that is accusing you is setting you up, and have some evidence, sue him. Your question provides all the elements of a defamation case.
