After uni i want to go back-packing - any tips on where? or any tips in general?

My friend and I backpacked through Italy. It was fabulous. Rome, Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre. We wanted to stop at more places but didnt have time. The train system there is great and you can get to where ever you want to go cheaply and in comfort.
