  • On most of the GM/Buick radiators on the lower driver side of the radiator is a small drain valve. you twist it about 20 degrees and then pull it toward the engine and the radiator will drain one of it's mounting holes in the frame. It is often good to flush the radiator with a garden hose from the upper radiator hose position to force water out the lower radiator hose position at the other side. This will clear out any sediment from aged coolant as well as clear any other residue. Then pour in new coolant until you see the water change color again. Then close things back up and fill up with coolant (about 1 gallon for the radiator). However, to do an even better flush on the engine block as well, disconnect the lower radiator hose (passenger side) and then locate one of the heater core hoses (coming out by throttle body on driver side top of engine). Again flush the system with a garden hose until clear. Then pour in new coolant until the water is colored. reconnect the radiator hose (leave radiator cap off) and fill through heater core line until coolant is at radiator cap. This is also a good way to make sure you avoid bubbles in the cooling system.
