I've been going to the dentist for a year now because they keep saying I need fillings. Today I merely got my teeth cleaned. Can they do this? Like it seems that they keep asking me to come JUST for the money from MediCare.

I think most dentists are crooks. I went to a dentist once, and he said I needed to have two teeth fixed, although only one was causing me problems, the other one was fine to me. I told him to fix the much needed one first, and he could do the next one down the road when I needed it. He ignored me and went ahead and did both teeth, charging me $1,500! Of course, I couldn't do anything but pay him.

Almost 99% of Dentists will do procedures that are not needed. All because they know that the insurance is going to pay them. I had a wisdom tooth removed some years ago that I know that didn't need to come out. But he convinced my anyway, and out it went. It never bothered me. The next week, I heard he went skiing in Aspen.

My dentist is my best friend, among the service people I know. I go in four times a year for teeth cleaning, and every once in awhile, a filling. Next month, I am going in for a crown. If you don't trust your dentist, you need to find someone else. They can help your medical doctor keep you healthy.

I was under the impression you went to the dentist once, maybe twice a year. They cannot FORCE you to go for the services. Schedule the yearly cleaning and ignore the rest if you feel it's not necessary.

Dentistry is a business like any other business, with the bottom line of making a profit. I teach music, I ask my students to return to keep learning. This seems ethical and fair because I also run a business and I am a professional musician. It has always bothered me that on stage I can catch and cover my mistakes. It seems mistakes doctors and dentists make are simply laid to rest in a grave. And yet as businesses they have the right to ask you to come back in. Take care of your teeth, thay ain't gonna brush them for you. On the other hand come see me perform and I'll be singing a song for you. Fine lines are drawn in the sand on such matters. The term doctor does not mean God although many think so, but they can be educated body mechanics and some even do have morals and ethics. Find someone you can really trust.
