  • The name Baptist was first given to John the Baptist. We are proud to have it now. The name baptist was given to us I suppose by the Catholics, when we would not join their church. They called us ANA-BAPTISTS, which means re baptisers, because we insist on proper biblical principles in baptism. Meaning it is for believers only, not children under the age of knowlege. How can a person make a commitment to Jesus when they don't know who He is? We also believe that Baptism done properly requires total immersion under water, and not sprinkling "Holy Water" on the forehead. These two principles caused extreme persecution of our people through the dark ages. When someone new joined our church, we insisted, and still do, that they be re-baptised, in the biblical way. Through the centuries it has been shortened to Baptist. Innoway, The Baptist church has NEVER been a part of the catholic church. The catholic church tried to assimilate them, and tell them they were the only game in town, and the groups told them where to go. The catholic church has done nothing good to Baptists and their ancestors, ever. It is good for catholics that we believe the Bible, and will let God have vengeance, and let Him repay. There is a large payment due, and the pope maxed out his Visa card. Saying we were ever part of mystery Babylon is an insult.
  • Most in the world of Christinadom do not believe that the Baptist can claim that the name comes from their association with John the Baptist and that the Baptist Church today is the same church that was in existence in the time of Christ. I was taught in Seminary and even in High School World History that all churches go back to the Catholic Church. Baptist split from the Catholic Church because diffrences over the method of Baptism. If it is as they claim, they are the true followers of Christ then the Catholic Church and all churches that have come into existence since then are out of line with their teachings and have strayed from the gospel. In other words, all but the Baptists are doomed. I don't believe that most Baptist believe that. I don't believe that most Baptist believe in the part about being the authorized church that Christ himself set up when he was here on earth. I went to the Baptist church and I have never heard that taught in Sunday School or any other place. I would think that most Baptist go to the Baptist Church because they like going to the Baptist Church. I doubt that most Baptist's have heard of this theology. It would be interesting to quiz a large number of Baptists on this. I would venture to say that the Baptist Church has done a poor job of teaching this doctrine to its members. But that's my opinion. But I will say this, the Baptist of today particulary Southern Baptist have strayed far from the gospel of love that is taught in the Christian Bible. As a side note I spoke with several Baptists today at work. One the wife of a Baptist Minister. They all said that while some Baptist believe that, most don't. Sounds like the Baptist don't know what they believe.
