  • If the door won't lock, even mechanically (turning the key in the lock), and the door will not actually close and latch, there must be either be (more likely) a frozen latch, stuck in the closed position, or major damage to the catch on the inner door panel. The first situation might be remedied with a bit of wd-40, waiting 5 minutes and a bit of -light- tapping with a hammer. With a job interview at stake, don't lock it when you get to the interview, or if you get it closed, lock it and use the passenger side. This is an unusual problem; what year is the vehicle? Has it been in a crash recently?
  • Look on the end of the door (the skinny part that faces backward when the door is closed. There is a latch that normaly engages a round pin sticking out from the door jam (the flat surface of the door opening that faces forward. Look at the latch for a U shaped piece of steel. The U should be laying on it's side with the open part of the U pointing to the inside of the car. If it is'nt, the door will make a loud bang when you try to close it. To fix the door work the door handle and try to move the U untill it lays down.If the U is laying down, the latch could be frozen or sticking. This can be fixed with WD-40 or some oil. To get to your interview, you could tie the door shut and drive carefully. Good Luck
