i used to be friends with a girl who slept walked all the time. she would rearrange furniture in her house, cook, and have full on conversations with you. it was wierd. and one night she went outside in the pouring rain, took off her pants and was out there for who knows how long before she buzzed our other neighbor at about 4am to let her in. and the next morning she didnt know she did that.

No, sleepwalking takes place during the deepest phase of sleep. The sleepwalker doesn't remember anything they did during an episode.

I am a sleepwalker. I never remember what I've done, but I do sometimes remember the dream that triggered it.

This may be a long story but is quite interesting. I am a 27 year old male that has no history of sleepwalking, my sister did as a child though. I recently have been going through a lot of heavy stuff in life... my wife being diagnosed witha brain tumor, finding out 2 weeks later that a baby is on the way, and running a restaurant with a cursed economy. A side note: my wife's brain tumor is benign "YAY". Added information, I always drink a beer or two to help me fall asleep (I've had an insomnia issue since college). Also it is spring and I have began my seasonal benadryl taking for my horrible allergies. All this info is necessary to my story. And now the story... One morning I woke up and remembered a crazy dream I had the night before. I was in my hallway with the cat and we were hunting spiders coming down from the ceiling. It was very dark in the hallway so I went to the desk to grab a flashlight. I found the flashlight and went back to the hallway only to see the spiders run from the light and into the cat's litterbox. I struggled to open the litterbox, but when I did I urinated in it to destroy the spiders. Crazy, weird dream... only two hours later I went to clean the cat litterbox only to find it completley sopping wet. This is the first clue I had to sleepwalking. Thought it might be a weird solitary event... I was wrong. Three nights later I awoke in the morning and remembered another crazy dream. I was looking out the windows of our apartment and a group of guys were outside. One was trying to climb in through the bedroom window! I was in the family room. I ran around the apartment scrambling to lock all the windows. That is all I remembered. The next day my wife told me she woke up to the dog barking at me banging on the windows, and that when she asked me what was wrong, I said nothing and went to sleep. I started researching on the internet and found a lot on sleepwalking, including this form. And I wanted to share: -Most of what I read said people dont remember sleepwalking as it happens in the first third of your sleep cycle (this cycle does not contain REM the dream state). -Most of what I read said that sleepwalking can occur in adults with some of the following: --high stress levels (brain tumor, pregnancy, work). --alcohol --allergy medications or other drugs --unusual heartbeat patterns (I have a heart murmur) To answer the question at hand. There is still a lot of research to be done on sleepwalking. I would say a high percentage of people do not remember sleepwalking. What has happened to me seems like a rare case and in retrospect both occurences have been to protect my pregnant wife. That was my task. I do not think there actually was spiders, I do not think there actually was a guy trying to get in to my apartment. I do think I was dreaming about what I did earlier sleepwalking and mixed the two together in a memory. Or... my eyes are open when I sleepwalk and navigating, what is not to say that some of the information my eyes and brain recieve during sleepwalking isnt being deposited into my memory for the next day. I will keep you updated on any new events. Thank you for your time.
