  • Usually it trickles instead of gushing but sometimes it doesn't break until you're in full blown labor. My water never broke until I was in the hospital with both my kids. You'll just have to wait and find out. Good Luck with the baby.
  • The movie-idea of your water breaking in a gush is usually not typical. The majority of the time, it trickles out. The exception is if you are in bed when it breaks. The reason is, when you are upright, the baby's head is pressed down farther, acting as a "stopper" of sorts. When you are lying, it's not pressed down, and the amniotic fluid can come out in more of a rush. Also, if your water breaks after you are having heavier contractions (or if the doctor breaks if for you during labor) it will probably come in gushes during contractions. FYI: A lot of women have their water broken by the doctor, so if yours doesn't happen naturally, as before, it's nothing to be concerned about.
